AFE Helps Bring Tyrell Hughes to Giffen Elementary School’s Black History Month Celebration!

The Albany Fund For Education helped to fund Tyrell’s talk at Giffen Elementary School’s Black History Month Celebration. This was the first time that students, faculty and friends gathered in Giffen’s Auditorium since the pandemic and excitement filled the air as guest speakers, videos and musical performances all celebrated important moments in black history.

Tyrell Hughes, author of the book “Just a Kid From Arbor Hill: A Story Of Beating The Odds,” spoke for about 15 minutes at the end of the BHM program. He spoke to children about changing their lives and beating the odds, through his story about his life. Tyrell shared his story about growing up in the inner city of Albany NY and inspired the audience to overcome any adversities they face to realize their true potential.
