Celebrating Arbor Day at Eagle Point Elementary

AFE was thrilled to celebrate Arbor Day with Eagle Point Elementary School first grade students on Friday, April 28, by planting 12 new trees on the school property and learning about trees and plants hands-on by potting seedlings, examining “tree cookies,” and hunting for worms!

The event could not have taken place without help from the wonderful teachers of the City School District of Albany, and the partners in the Albany Goes Green Coalition including Albany’s Department of General Services, New York State Department of Conservation, Friends of the Normanskill, Radix Ecological Sustainability Center, The Vegetable Project, Albany County Cornell Cooperative Extension. We were fortunate to be joined by local leaders, including Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Assemblymember Pat Fahy.

AFE Executive Director Mari Shopsis also presented Eagle Point Principal Jared Fox with a check for $2,500 for a Partnership Grant pairing Eagle Point with the Vegetable Project to build a permanent outdoor classroom for the school.
