Volunteers Needed!

The Albany Fund for Education is thrilled to announce that we will again be able to provide students experiencing hunger with weekend food bags for eight weeks during the summer. The “Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Vacation” program will provide 435 students from all Albany elementary and secondary schools with a bag of healthy food each Thursday, including fresh produce, and coupons for milk and eggs. These meals help ensure that children do not go hungry over the weekend when school and community meals are not available. This program supplements the school year Feed and Read program provided by AFE, the Homeless and Travelers Aid Society, and Grassroot Givers.

Food bags will be assembled at the Pine Hills Elementary School Cafeteria (41. North Allen, Albany) on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. We need 20 volunteers each Wednesday and Thursday (9:00 am – 10:30 am) from July 10 – August 29 to help set up assembly stations and pack bags.

Teenagers over 14 years of age are welcome to participate without adult supervision and can receive community service credit; to ensure safety we ask that younger volunteers be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This is a great group volunteer opportunity for businesses, teams, and families.

We also need:

  • Extra volunteers on WEDNESDAY, JULY 10 to help unpack and organize a very large delivery from the Regional Food Bank.
  • A truck with a lift gate (and someone to drive it) to pick up donations of bread and pastries from Bimbo Bakeries weekly

To volunteer, please register on our Sign Up Genius form or contact us with any questions.
